Danish Engineering Newspaper celebrates 123 years

Engineer's Newspaper Turns 123 | EE Times

Denmark is home to one of the little known treasures of engineering, a newspaper for engineers that dates back to July 2, 1892. Sponsored by the Danish Engineering Society,
Ingeniøren covers all branches of engineering, backed by a lively team that puts out a newspaper, multiple Web site and occasional events, all in Danish. The 123 year-old weekly newspaper still keeps its finger on the tech pulse of the country. They also publish a monthly magazine, The Ingeniøren Magazine | english.ida.dk

The 30-person editorial team does investigative work too. Recent stories broke news about why the national train system, usually a source of pride in Europe, still is not meeting goals set under a purchasing program that dates back to the year 2000.

Stories revealed reasons why software that was supposed to connect systems a decade ago is still not working, issues the railway tried to mask in opaque memos. “We haven’t electrified all our rail lines, so we couldn’t buy off-the-shelf trains from companies such as Siemens but had to use diesel train instead,” said Christian Østergaard, a reporter covering medtech, smart cities and other beats.
