Single-Chip MM Radars and Applications

5 New Things to Do with a Single-Chip Radar | Line of Sight
Single-chip radar’s greatest success so far is its use for automotive safety and convenience. Some examples  are adaptive cruise control, collision mitigation with automatic braking, lane-departure sensing, and even backup object detection. And, of course, single-chip radar is absolutely essential to the success of the driverless car. So what else can you do with a single chip radar?
  • 1. Drone safety.
  • 2. Automatic door openers.
  • 3. Bug zapper.
  • 4. Security.
  • 5. Bicycle safety.

The 3.3V BGT24MTR11 has a detection range up to 160m at 500mW power consumption and is accurate within millimeter range for near-field sensing applications. With standard VQFN package, no specialized equipment or processes are needed for production assembly and test of radar systems based on the BGT24MTRxx family
    • For energy efficient lighting, 24GHz Radar Systems are well-suited for adjusting the intensity level of street, industrial and office lighting by detecting moving objects or people in the designated area.
    • The high resolution of the BGT24MTxxx family can make tank and silo level metering systems more accurate, as the system is not tricked by splashing liquid or dust.
    • Door opening systems can also easily distinguish between someone approaching the door or a passerby.
    • Another application is intruder alarms, where 24GHz radar can achieve room coverage area up to 270m² compared to 10m² for commonly used InfraRed (IR) systems.
