GA-ASI Receives Design Accreditation From UK MAA

GA-ASI Receives Design Accreditation From UK MAA

General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI), a leading manufacturer of Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPA) systems, radars, and electro-optic and related mission systems, today announced that the UK’s Military Aviation Authority (MAA) has accredited the company under the Design Approved Organization Scheme (DAOS).
DAOS is a mechanism by which competence of organizations can be assessed in relation to the design of aircraft systems and associated equipment. Those meeting the required stringent design standards of airworthiness are awarded Design Approval certification by the MAA.

Part of the Ministry of Defence (MOD), the MAA is an independent and autonomous organization responsible for the regulation, surveillance, inspection and assurance of the Defence Air operating and technical domains. It ensures the safe design and use of military air systems.

As the single regulatory authority responsible for regulating all aspects of Air Safety across Defence, the MAA has full oversight of all Defence aviation activity. Through independent audit and continuous surveillance of military aviation, the MAA aims to provide the Secretary of State for Defence (SofS), through the Permanent Under Secretary of State for Defence (PUS),  the necessary assurance that appropriate standards of Air Safety are maintained in delivering operational capability.

Design Approved Organization Scheme (DAOS)

One of the Four Pillars of Airworthiness is the use of competent organizations. The Design Approved Organization Scheme (DAOS) is a mechanism by which competence of design organizations can be assessed. An organization shall only be included in the DAOS and awarded approval for a defined range of products when it is in the interest of MOD and when the organization has been accepted by the Military Aviation Authority (MAA).

Internet published list of DAOS as of July 2013.does not yet list GA-ASI.
