Raytheon SDB II Small Diameter Bomb

Raytheon SDB II Small Diameter Bomb

SDB I was for fixed targets only. This is a big step up in long range capability against ground moving targets. Would be great for manned and unmanned platforms, but the trick will be getting sufficient long range sensor performance to identify and target accurately enough at that range (40 NM) without risk of collateral or blue force damage. Fighters had a similar problem with use of air-to-air missiles beyond visual range.

Raytheon Company and the U.S. Air Force concluded a series of test flights with the Small Diameter Bomb II (SDB II) culminating in direct hits on targets moving at operationally representative speeds. SDB II can hit targets from a range of more than 40 nautical miles.
