Iridium joins the International M2M Council as M2M takes off

Iridium joins the International M2M Council | Iridium 360

Iridium recently announced that it has joined the International M2M Council (IMC). Established earlier this year, the IMC promotes the business benefits of machine-to-machine communications.
“Iridium sees great value in joining together with other industry leaders to increase awareness of the business case for M2M,” says David Wigglesworth, company VP of M2M services. “As an industry we’ve only just scratched the surface of potential economic benefits that M2M can provide, and we think that by promoting the value of M2M to business owners we can broaden the overall market by communicating the benefits in a manner that resonates with business owners.”

The IMC is a new trade organization for the machine-to-machine communications industry, and it brings a new approach – it will stand for M2M as its own global industry – it will not see M2M through the narrow lens of a single product category, nor will it see M2M solely as applied to a single vertical industry. The IMC will strive to bring together M2M Solutions Providers and Adopters of M2M technology into a single membership organization.

Mission

The Mission of the IMC will be to support industry efforts to increase deployment volumes, by offering member services that connect M2M Solutions Providers with Adopters of M2M technology and support their evolving needs.
  • Awareness: promote M2M’s powerful application in verticals such as automotive, logistics, energy, healthcare, and public infrastructure – making M2M highly visible to Adopters.
  • Metrics: share benchmarks and best practices learned with use-case studies and focus groups, developing best-practice certifications and business-level standards.
  • Policy: ensure Solutions Providers and Adopters share a common view of the future, and present united objectives to regulatory bodies on issues like security and privacy.
  • Training & Education: establish professional curricula that will educate engineers and marketers, encouraging movement between M2M industry sectors
