CIA names Leon Panetta as source of 'Zero Dark Thirty' scriptwriter’s information in Judicial Watch FOIA Response

So, it was top secret, but CIA Director Panetta felt he could safely say it in front of an audience of 1300, which just happened to include an uncleared movie screen writer making a movie to glorify the administration before an election. And the speech still can't be released without 90 lines redacted. Of course, Attorney General Eric Holder has nothing to say about it and Panetta was then moved to a less responsible post, Secretary of Defense. If a DoD contractor employee had done this, he would be on his way to Leavenworth for 20 years, or on the midnight flight to Moscow to move in with Edward Snowden.

Leon Panetta Revealed ‘Top Secret’ Information to Hollywood Filmmaker at bin Laden Assault Awards Ceremony | Judicial Watch

Leon Panetta
Judicial Watch announced today that it has obtained more than 200 pages of documents from the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), including a previously unreleased CIA internal report confirming that former CIA Director Leon Panetta revealed classified information at a June 24, 2011, Osama bin Laden assault awards ceremony attended by “Zero Dark Thirty” filmmaker/writer Mark Boal. The documents were produced in response to a June 21, 2013, Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit against the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).

Significantly, the entire transcript of the Panetta speech provided to Judicial Watch by the CIA is classified “Top Secret.”  More than 90 lines are redacted for security reasons, further confirming that significant portions of the speech should not have been made in front of the filmmaker who lacked top security clearance.

Judicial Watch said in an email that Mr. Panetta revealed the classified information during an awards ceremony on June 24, 2011, to mark the administration’s assault on Osama bin Laden. Mr. Panetta was giving a speech at the ceremony, during which he concluded: “You have made me proud of the CIA family. And you have made me proud as an Italian to know that bin Laden sleeps with the fishes.”
Mark Boal at another Awards Ceremony

Hollywood’s Mark Boal, who produced “Zero Dark Thirty,” was at this awards ceremony. According to internal documents from the CIA received by Judicial Watch as part of the group’s FOIA request, Mr. Panetta’s entire speech was classified “Top Secret.” And Mr. Panetta shouldn’t have spoken those words in front of Mr. Boal, who didn’t have a top security clearance, Judicial Watch reported.
