Windows 7 - Reports of my demise have been greatly exagerated

With apologies to Mark Twain.

If Windows 7 continues to outsell Windows 8, will Microsoft shut it down and just tell us to keep our money. I'm sure the PC makers are loving this. Maybe my next OS will be open source such as Linux Ubuntu, and I can spend the money on something else such as more capable hardware.

Windows 7 gets reprieve for PC makers | PCWorld

If you’re still in the market for a Windows 7 PC, you can breathe a sigh of relief. They’re still available.
At the end of October, Microsoft ended retail sales of Windows 7. But the software giant also posted a notice that sales of PCs with Windows 7 installed also ended on that date. And that, Microsoft said recently, was a mistake.

”We have yet to determine the end of sales date for PCs with Windows 7 preinstalled,” Microsoft told Neowin.net. “The October 30, 2014 date that posted to the Windows Lifecycle page globally last week was done so in error.” So far, Microsoft hasn’t said when it will cut off Windows 7 PC sales, leaving the issue unresolved with a “to be determined” tag.
